Product Description
From New York Times bestselling author J.A. Jance comes a chilling tale of suspense, where romance turns deadly at the hands of a man whose heart is filled with... CRUEL INTENT
On a dating site, singleatheart.com, bored housewives can find romance with married men looking for sex without strings. But these "married singles" are flirting with more than just their vows. At the heart of this seemingly innocent service, a vengeful computer hacker is playing games with people's lives...and deaths. Ex-television journalist Ali Reynolds just wants a break from excitement. In the midst of a remodel, the last thing she expects is a murder investigation that will stop the construction on her home. But when the savagely murdered body of stay-at-home mom Morgan Forester is found, Ali's contractor Bryan is the prime suspect. Bryan swears he has nothing to do with his wife's murder -- but as the investigation progresses Ali seems to be the only resident of Sedona who believes him. Determined to prove Bryan's innocence, Ali unknowingly lands herself directly in the path of a calculating killer. In a world filled with encrypted computer traps and life-threatening lies, will Ali be able to decode the actions of a ruthless man determined to destroy women -- before he uses his wicked website to find her?

A touch of everything January 2, 2009 Jeffrey E (Austin, TX)
This was my first book by J.A. Jance and I was not disappointed . Her combination of a suspenseful story line, a variety of personal situations among the characters, and a creative character development, kept me entertained most of the time. There were a couple of situations that I didn't think particularly added to the story, like the ones related to the scholarship fund the main character was in charge of. However, the main character has an inquisitive and gutsy nature that I could relate to. This book includes a high-tech aspect that appealed to my intellect lending itself to holding my interest even more. I'm not particularly computer literate but I do try to maintain a basic understanding of the latest technology. I'm not sure what a savvy person's take would be, but it seemed to me like she did her homework. One last thing that I appreciated about this book was the ending and the fact that she didn't leave any unanswered questions.
A rather weak book December 29, 2008 Helen Feddema (Kerhonkson, NY USA) This is the fourth book in J. A. Jance's Ali Reynolds series. It has an interesting plot, but the characters are rather weak (especially in comparison with the strong and interesting characters in her other series, those featuring Sheriff Joanna Brady and J. P. Beaumont), and it just doesn't seem likely that an ex-TV news anchor would get into so many criminal situations. As a character, Ali is one of those women who are constantly being taken advantage of by friends and acquaintances (she will basically do almost anything anybody asks her to) - I can see her on Oprah or Dr. Phil being advised to think about herself, and not let others use her as a doormat. My advice is to read the other series, and leave this one alone.
Fast paced and entertaining! December 29, 2008 Michelle L. Beck (Atlanta, Georgia) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Ali Reynolds (divorcee and single mother) is having her Sedona home renovated and finds herself in the middle of a murder mystery. Bryan Forester, her contractor, is the prime suspect in his wife's (Morgan) death, and only Ali believes in his innocence (after all she was blamed for her ex-husband's death). While uncovering clues to Morgan's death (which involve a single's dating site) and cheating spouses, Ali also deals with a well meaning mother (Edie), an ex-lover/Detective (Dave Holman) who is convinced of Bryan's guilt, her son's pending marriage, the construction of her house, a serial killer, and the upcoming Thanksgiving holidays (of which she has promised to host and prepare dinner for her entire family). Two things that I loved about the story were the well meaning butler (Leland Brooks) and the one-eyed cat. While I am not sure that this was a stand alone novel (there were several references to past novels or storylines) I really enjoyed "Cruel Intent". This was my first Jance novel, and I found it to be easy to understand and entertaining. And although you know from the beginning who the killer is, you enjoy reading about his eventual unmasking and capture.
Nother winning main characterr December 22, 2008 constantread (NM) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
J A Jance has created another lead character that the reader can care about. Ali Reynolds joins Joanna Brady and J T Beaumont in Jance's crime solving array. One of Jance's strengths is that she places her characters in real families (and/or with real friends and co-workers) that the reader can become emotionally involved with. Jance has also created one of the most intelligent and malevolent serial murders since Hannibal the Cannibal. The creator of Singleheart has developed a plan that might have gone undetected even longer had hubris not caused his downfall--aided,of course, by Ali and her crew of intrepid friends and family. I also liked the way Jance managed to resolve the dilemma of Ali's career in TV reporting. This is the second Ali Reiynolds book I've read and I'll be on the lookout for the next one.
I enjoyed it... December 19, 2008 ThisThatNEverything (Columbus, Ohio United States) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the first book that I've read from this author & I enjoyed it. This is the 4th book in her Alison Reynolds series & since I didn't have a chance to read the first 3 I did feel a little bit out of the loop. I sure wish I had read them though because from the details given in this book they sure sound good. For me this book was a bit different given the fact that the killer was revealed from the very start. There really wasn't any mystery involved. That being said though I did enjoy the story. I really like Jance's style of writing. I will certainly keep my eye open for more books by her. I would recommend this book but you may want to read Edge of Evil, Web of Evil & Hand of Evil beforehand.
